# Connection and access

> Connect to the Rungst WebSocket endpoint.

```text theme={null}
wss://api.rungst.com/v1/
```

The trailing slash is required. Use a WebSocket client; opening the URL as an ordinary web page does not establish a connection. The connection starts unsubscribed, so send a [subscribe command](https://docs.rungst.com/websocket/subscriptions.md) after it opens.

## IP authorization

The public IP address of the connecting machine must be registered to a paid subscriber. Unknown IPs receive HTTP 403 during the handshake. A registered Free-plan IP also receives HTTP 403 with `upgrade_required`; browser WebSocket clients cannot read that response body. Your dashboard login and registered Solana public key are not WebSocket credentials.

If your client runs on a server, register that server's public egress IP. If its network or IP changes, access may need to be updated. Removing a registered IP closes its existing connections and prevents new ones.

## Connection limits

A user may have multiple connections, each with at most one active subscription. Active subscriptions are limited by plan across the user's IPs. Open sockets, including idle sockets, are also capped per IP at the plan limit; a handshake over that cap receives HTTP 429.

WebSocket pings receive pongs. Reconnect after a disconnect and send a new subscription command: subscription IDs are temporary and missed trades are not replayed.
